Research Paper Topics on the Civil War Using Primary Sources
Research Paper Topics on the Civil War Using Primary SourcesThe Civil War remains a subject of intense interest to many historians and researchers who have been unable to obtain funding to undertake primary source research for their research papers. Although historians tend to favor the balanced and ahistorical approach, including little or no primary source material, in their papers, many do not have the necessary funding to pursue these types of primary sources for their research papers. In fact, many individuals do not realize that there are numerous research paper topics on the Civil War that can be researched using primary sources and non-primary sources as well. One such topic is that of the documents related to the American Expeditionary Forces, which includes those from the Union Army, the Confederacy, and Union sympathizers that document their involvement in the war.Because the war did not have a clear-cut victory, there were many different winners and losers in the war. In a ddition, several individuals were caught up in the conflict during its later stages, such as General Robert E. Lee and General George Armstrong Custer. For these soldiers, having their lives documented in such a way has provided researchers with insights into the life of these individuals.Other topics about the war include those that discuss the racial bias in the conflict. For example, Confederate soldiers discriminated against black soldiers during the Civil War, which is why they often referred to African Americans as 'niggers.' Although the war was primarily fought over the territories, the fighting was often marked by racial bias, including the burning of plantations. In addition, many scholars have utilized a variety of sources from the Civil War, such as an extensive amount of photographs, journals, and diaries, to name a few. Because these photographs were very important in the latter stages of the war, including when the Confederacy held the city of Richmond, Virginia; these photographs have been used as primary sources for the study of the Civil War.Many have also used manuscripts found throughout the war as sources for their research papers. These documents often included letters from soldiers to their families, particularly during times of grief. While no one really knows how important these letters were, they provide insights into the life of soldiers from both sides of the war. However, just because there were several battles fought in the Civil War does not mean that there were only conflicts. For example, Fort Pillow was a Confederate base that served as a training ground for pilots in the early stages of the war. During this time, Union pilots came to visit the base and would observe the movements of the Confederates and who they were attacking during these attacks. These kinds of circumstances provide many different scenarios that historians and researchers can use as primary sources for their research papers on the Civil War. Although these pap ers are often technical in nature, they do offer some insight into the lives of soldiers during the Civil War, which researchers can utilize in their papers.
