For example, Confederate soldiers discriminated against black soldiers during the Civil War, which is why they often referred to African Americans as 'niggers.' Although the war was primarily fought over the territories, the fighting was often marked by racial bias, including the burning of plantations.In addition, many scholars have utilized a variety of sources from the Civil War, such as an extensive amount of photographs, journals, and diaries, to name a few. Because these photographs were very important in the latter stages of the war, including when the Confederacy held the city of Richmond, Virginia; these photographs have been used as primary sources for the study of the Civil War.Many have also used manuscripts found throughout the war as sources for their research papers. These documents often included letters from soldiers to their families, particularly during times of grief. While no one really knows how important these letters were, they provide insights into the life of soldiers from both sides of the war.However, just because there were several battles fought in the Civil War does not mean that there were only conflicts. For example, Fort Pillow was a Confederate base that served as a training ground for pilots in the early stages of the war.
